Deep Freeze For Windows 11

Yes, but only in shared, high-turnover environments. For a corporate managed PC with proper group policies and endpoint protection, Deep Freeze feels like a sledgehammer. For a public library, school computer lab, or kiosk, it remains nearly unbeatable.

Windows 11’s security core is excellent at preventing malware during a session, but it cannot undo what a user does intentionally or accidentally. Deep Freeze provides that hard reset guarantee.

Bottom line: If you wake up at night worrying about what a stranger might do to your Windows 11 machine before the next reboot, Deep Freeze is your answer. For everyone else, trust Windows’ native tools and a good backup strategy.

Faronics Deep Freeze is a powerful "reboot-to-restore" solution that effectively turns Windows 11 systems into "indestructible" workstations. By freezing a desired configuration, it ensures that every reboot wipes away any user-made changes, malware, or accidental system deletions, restoring the PC to its pristine baseline. Core Performance on Windows 11

Modern Compatibility: The latest versions now support critical Windows 11 features like Core Isolation, ensuring deep-level security remains active while the system is frozen.

Power Management: It is fully compatible with Windows 11’s Modern Standby, Hibernation, and Fast Startup. This allows frozen machines to save energy without losing their "thawed" maintenance status. Yes, but only in shared, high-turnover environments

Patented Technology: Unlike basic snapshots, Deep Freeze works at the disk sector level, redirecting all writes to an allocation table. This makes the "restore" instant because the software simply discards the redirection table upon reboot rather than copying files back. The magic of Deep Freeze lies in the "Thawed" boot mode. Here is how to manage permanent changes:

Solution: Without the password, the only way is to wipe the drive and reinstall Windows 11. Faronics cannot recover passwords for security reasons. Always backup the password in a password manager. Have you used Deep Freeze on Windows 11

| Not a replacement for: | Why | |---------------------------|---------| | Antivirus | Deep Freeze resets malware, but does not prevent infection during a session. | | Backup software | User data in ThawSpace is not backed up unless you use separate tools. | | Version control | Changes cannot be "partially" rolled back – only full reboot. | | Drive encryption (BitLocker) | Deep Freeze is incompatible with BitLocker-protected system drives (can use on secondary drives). |

In educational or testing environments, you need the software configuration to remain identical across hundreds of machines. Deep Freeze ensures that a computer in Room A looks exactly the same as a computer in Room B, regardless of what students did during the day.

Regarding the patch in the DeployWiz_SelectTS.vbs script, for MDT build 8443 you will have to add an extra line; in “Function ValidateTSList”, after the line that says “Dim oTS” add the following:

    Dim sCmd
    Dim oItem
    Set oShell = createObject(“Wscript.shell”)

The two lines at the bottom are as in MDT 2013 Update 2.

Kudos on this workaround goes to Ward Vissers in “MDT Build 8443 Automatically move computers to the right OU” (http://www.wardvissers.nl/2016/12/29/mdt-build-8443-automatically-move-computers-to-the-right-ou/).

Thanks a lot for your article!

Has anyone tried this same fix in MDT Build 8456? I’m working on updating my MDT to the latest install and I’m having issues getting the TS Selection to work like it did previously with this fix in place.
