In a rare development blog post accompanying the update, toasterkun shared some insight:

“Update 2 took nine months. The biggest challenge wasn’t the models – it was the shader pipeline. I wanted divinity to literally look like it’s radiating light without tanking frame rates. Toasterkun also confirmed that Update 3 (expected Q4 2025) will focus on “divine environments” – custom skyboxes, cloud platforms, and particle-based stained glass effects.

Divinity -Update 2- By toasterkun represents more than just a mod update; it showcases how solo developers can rival professional teams. The new rigging and shader techniques are already being studied by other modders for use in different games, from VRChat to Blender Eevee renders.

Moreover, toasterkun has open-sourced the shader code under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial license, meaning future mods can build upon this work.
