Note on EVpad: EVpad is a popular “fully loaded” Android TV box primarily used for streaming live TV, Video on Demand (VOD), and Pay-Per-View events without a subscription. It is widely used in Chinese-speaking communities. Due to copyright and legal pressures in various regions (Southeast Asia, North America, Europe), the manufacturer frequently hides or camouflages third-party streaming apps to avoid detection and shutdowns.
The concealment of these apps is not accidental. There are three primary drivers: Evpad 6p Hidden Apps
5.1 Legal Liability (Safe Harbor) By hiding apps that scrape copyrighted content (e.g., Yoyo), the manufacturer (Shenzhen EV Technology) can argue that the device is merely a "neutral hardware platform." The hidden menu acts as a "click-wrap" barrier, shifting liability to the user who actively chooses to reveal and use the unauthorized apps.
5.2 Anti-Piracy Pressure Payment processors (Visa/Mastercard) and customs agencies frequently target devices that advertise piracy. By hiding the infringing apps from screenshots and default demos, EVpad can pass superficial compliance checks. This research was conducted via: Note on EVpad:
5.3 Reducing Support Tickets The hidden apps are often unstable. They rely on community-sourced scrapers that break frequently. Hiding them reduces customer complaints from non-technical users who accidentally open broken apps.
Before diving into the "how," it is important to understand the "why." The Evpad 6P runs on a heavily modified version of Android (usually Android 10 or 11). The manufacturer, Evpad, designs the launcher (the home screen interface) to prioritize their own EVO apps and licensed IPTV services. The concealment of these apps is not accidental
Hidden apps typically fall into three categories:
There is no single "Hidden Apps" folder. Instead, you must use specific methods to reveal the invisible software. Here are the three most effective techniques.
Whenever Evpad pushes an over-the-air (OTA) firmware update, it will automatically re-hide all the apps you revealed. Keep a list of the apps you unhid so you can re-enable them after an update.
