Facegen For Genesis 9

This is where many users hit a wall. You cannot simply "drag and drop" a FaceGen OBJ onto Genesis 9 without a morph target.

Here is the critical point of friction. FaceGen outputs a generic, symmetrical mesh topology. Genesis 9 has a unique topology optimized for Daz’s TriAx weight-mapping. You cannot simply load a FaceGen OBJ into Daz Studio and expect it to morph Genesis 9.

Historically, Daz artists used a product called "FaceGen Converter for Genesis 8" (by Raccoon or similar developers). This tool acted as a bridge: it mapped the FaceGen shape onto the Genesis 8 base using a proprietary morph. facegen for genesis 9

As of late 2024 and into 2025, there is no official "FaceGen Converter for Genesis 9" sold directly by Daz 3D. However, the community and third-party developers have found workarounds. The most promising tool currently is the "GF9 - Genesis 9 Face Tools" or modified scripts originally designed for Genesis 8 that have been updated.

The objective is to create a custom, photo-realistic character head for the Genesis 9 base figure using FaceGen's AI-driven generation capabilities. This workflow is widely used in game development, visualization, and digital art to bypass the time-consuming process of box modeling or sculpting from scratch. This is where many users hit a wall

This report details the workflow, benefits, and technical considerations of using FaceGen software to create realistic 3D heads and transferring them to the Genesis 9 figure platform (Daz Studio).

While FaceGen is a standalone tool for procedural head generation, Genesis 9 is the latest figure platform from Daz 3D. The integration of these two technologies allows for the rapid creation of unique, realistic characters without the need for manual sculpting. However, the shift to the unified Genesis 9 topology requires specific export settings and morph creation workflows to ensure correct deformation and texture mapping. Genesis 9 has highly detailed, anatomically accurate ears. FaceGen's ear geometry is primitive. When you transfer a morph, the ears will likely implode or twist. Solution: After applying the FaceGen shape, manually reset the ear morph or use the "Transfer Utility" to exclude the ear vertices.
