Juniper Ren 2 Link

| Platform | REN 2 Speed | Typical Synchronization Load | Max Load During RPD Restart | |----------|-------------|------------------------------|-----------------------------| | MX240/480 | 10 Gbps | <100 Mbps | ~3 Gbps | | MX2020 | 2x10 Gbps (LAG internally) | ~500 Mbps | 8 Gbps | | PTX5000 | 25 Gbps | 200 Mbps | 12 Gbps | | PTX10008 | 2x25 Gbps | 300 Mbps | 15 Gbps |

Rule of thumb: If your BGP table exceeds 1 million prefixes, ensure you are not seeing backpressure on ren2. Use show interfaces ren2 extensive to monitor output queue drops.

Possible Causes:

Steps:

  • MPLS Pseudowire (VPWS/Virtual Circuit)

  • L2TPv3 or GRE-based tunnels

  • The system sends keepalives every 1 second by default. In congested backplane scenarios, you can adjust: juniper ren 2 link

    set chassis redundancy ren-keepalive-threshold 500
    set chassis redundancy ren-keepalive-interval 2000

But be warned: Changing these without JTAC guidance can cause false failovers.
