Biography: Miguel Pro (1891–1927) was a Mexican Jesuit during the brutal Cristero War. The government had outlawed the Catholic faith. Father Pro went underground, disguised as a laborer or a policeman, to bring Mass and sacraments to hidden Catholics. He was finally arrested. On the morning of his execution, he forgave the firing squad, stretched out his arms in the form of a cross, and cried: “¡Viva Cristo Rey!” (“Long live Christ the King!”).
Practical Reflection: When you feel tempted to hide your faith out of embarrassment, pray, “Viva Cristo Rey!”
