Maintenance Box Resetter For Epson L6170 -
Before buying a resetter, confirm your L6170 is showing one of these exact messages:
| Error Code | Message on Screen | Meaning |
|------------|-------------------|---------|
| 0x9A | “Maintenance box is near the end of its service life.” | Warning only – you have ~15% life left. |
| 0x9B | “Maintenance box is at the end of its service life. Replace with a new one.” | Printer is locked. Requires a new box AND a reset. |
| 0x9C | “A printer’s internal component is at the end of its service life.” | Generic lockout – usually means waste ink counter full. |
Note: Simply replacing the physical maintenance box with a new one (Epson original or generic) will NOT clear the error on the L6170. The printer’s internal counter must be manually reset using dedicated software or a hardware resetter tool.
Unlike "WIC Reset Keys" which require a PC connection and software download, a hardware resetter is a standalone device. This reduces the risk of malware from third-party software downloads and eliminates the need for a computer during the maintenance process.
| Scenario | Do you need a resetter? |
|-------------|-----------------------------|
| You bought a new genuine Epson maintenance box (C934C) | ❌ No – resets automatically |
| You bought a compatible (third-party) box | ✅ Yes, if it doesn’t auto-reset |
| You emptied and refilled the original box | ✅ Yes |
| You want to reset without changing the box (temporary) | ✅ Yes, but risky |
Recommendation: For the Epson L6170, simply replace the maintenance box with a genuine Epson C934C when the printer warns you. That’s the safest, cleanest, and most reliable method. Use a resetter only if you fully understand the risks and have a way to contain waste ink.
