Piwis Tester 4

The previous iteration, the Piwis 3, was essentially a ruggedized Panasonic laptop running Windows Embedded. The Piwis Tester 4 is a sleek, high-brightness 11.6-inch tablet running a custom Linux-based OS designed specifically for the harsh environment of a workshop. It is lighter, faster, and features a replaceable battery for all-day use.

Say hello to the PIWIS Tester 4. If you are working on Porsches, this is the only key you need to unlock the car's full potential. From the classic air-cooled era to the cutting-edge Taycan, the PT4 covers the entire spectrum.

Why it’s a game changer: ✅ Faster boot-up and navigation. ✅ Secure gateway access for the latest models. ✅ Coding, programming, and calibration in one device. piwis tester 4

Don't let complex electronics slow you down. Work smarter, not harder.

Early reports from European workshops are glowing. A technician at a Stuttgart independent shop noted: "We diagnosed a intermittent CAN bus fault on a 2023 Cayenne in 11 minutes. The PIWIS 4 traced the signal degradation to a corroded door connector — something our generic scanner called 'lost communication to module X.'" The previous iteration, the Piwis 3, was essentially

Another benefit is speed. A full vehicle scan that took 8 minutes on PIWIS 3 now takes 90 seconds on PIWIS 4, thanks to parallelized communication across multiple vehicle buses.

The Piwis Tester IV is the official diagnostic tool developed by Porsche AG for the servicing and analysis of all Porsche vehicle models. Released to supersede the Piwis Tester III (and the earlier Piwis II), the PT4 is designed to handle the increasing complexity of modern Porsche architectures, specifically the PAN platform (Premium Architecture Electric) found in the Taycan and the upcoming electric Macan, while maintaining backward compatibility with legacy models.

Perhaps the most critical feature: Offboard programming. Modern Porsches (991, 958, 982 generations) require module firmware updates to fix bugs. The Piwis Tester 4 connects directly to Porsche’s backend server (PVTS – Porsche Vehicle Tracking System). It downloads the latest software (often 2GB+ updates) and flashes the ECU. If this process is interrupted, the module is bricked—which is why independent shops refuse to use cheap clones for this task. Early reports from European workshops are glowing

Do not buy this if you are a DIYer. The software is cryptic, not intuitive. Menus are nested deep, and the terminology assumes you have completed Porsche factory training. One wrong click in "Coding" can turn on your check engine light permanently until a dealer fixes it.

For shops: The workflow is smooth. Connect VCI → Start Piwis → Read VIN → Auto-scan. The tablet syncs wirelessly with the VCI via a dedicated 5GHz band, so you can walk around the car while the tablet stays on your cart.
