The Quahog Sub is designed to simulate a busy Class I railroad mainline. It is not a shortline or a switching puzzle; it is a long, mainline endurance test.

Located in the fictional town of "Pawtuxet Valley," this is the interchange point with the national rail network (presumably CSX or NS). The yard consists of four classification tracks, a small diesel servicing facility (fuel rack and sand tower), and a team track.
