Use a label maker to print the password and date of last change. Stick it on the underside of the DVR (not on top, where anyone can see).

You cannot do this manually; you need a generator tool. Due to security policies, most manufacturers have removed public generators, but legacy tools still exist.
Option A (Official): Contact TrueView support directly (877-410-0003). Provide them your Serial Number and the current date (UTC time). They will email you a 6 to 8-digit unlock code. Note: They may require proof of purchase to prevent theft.
Option B (Unofficial but common): Use a third-party "DVR Password Reset Tool" (like SmartPSS or Hikvision Password Reset Tool).
