If you are looking to modify your vivo Y12i (codename: PD1930)—whether to port a custom ROM, fix a bootloop, or debloat the stock system—understanding how to properly repack the firmware is essential. Since Vivo devices use specific partition structures and encryption, a simple copy-paste of files often leads to a hard brick.
In this guide, I will walk you through the basics of unpacking and repacking the super.img and handling the VBMETA partition for the Y12i.
The subject: vivo Y12i (2019) — a budget warrior. MediaTek Helio P22, 3GB RAM, and a 5000mAh battery. On paper, it’s unremarkable. But inside its firmware lives a fascinating puzzle.
The Y12i runs Funtouch OS (Android 9/10). Like many vivo devices, it is not developer-friendly. No official bootloader unlock. No Treble love. And yet, a small community of tinkerers wants one thing: to repack the firmware — to modify system.img, add magisk, remove bloat, or port a GSI without hard-bricking.
Here’s why that’s weirdly difficult — and deeply satisfying.
If the repack still fails, you have an eMMC hardware issue. However, try this:
Unzip your official PD1901BF firmware. You will see standard files:
boot.img, system.img, vendor.img, rawprogram0.xml, patch0.xml, and NON-HLOS.bin.
Warning: This will void your warranty. I am not responsible for hardware damage.
Open boot.img in HxD.
Search for the string ro.boot.vivo.verified.
Change one character (e.g., change v to w). This corrupts the verification hash just enough that the bootloader ignores the version check but keeps the boot image functional.
Save the modified boot.img.
This is the trickiest part. The Vivo Y12i uses an SMD450 loader, but the signature must match. Search for a file named prog_emmc_firehose_Sm6150_ddr.elf or a generic prog_emmc_firehose_8953.mbn.
If your firehose isn't compatible, QFIL will throw a "Sahara protocol error."
