Although Windows Phone was discontinued in 2017, XAP archives remain significant as artifacts of mobile software history. This paper examines the internal architecture of the XAP format, its security model, the sideloading and enterprise deployment mechanisms, and the current challenges involved in archiving and emulating these applications.
