Important: The original developer of AetherSX2 has stopped updates, and the official app is no longer on the Play Store.

Due to the age of the title (released in 2011 on aging PS2 hardware), the demands on modern Android hardware are moderate.

Winning Eleven 2012 on AetherSX2 receives a rating of 10/10 for Compatibility.

It is a showcase title for the emulator. It offers a complete, bug-free console experience on mobile devices. The game is light enough to run on mid-range phones, yet benefits greatly from the upscaling power of flagship phones. It remains arguably the best way to play classic PES/WE on the go due to the lack of microtransactions and the pure gameplay focus of the PS2 era.

Note: AetherSX2 is no longer under active development, but the final stable build works very well for PS2 games like WE2012.

The primary reason to play WE2012 on AetherSX2 is the Master League. Modern Ultimate Team modes are Skinner boxes; the Master League is a drama generator.

You start with a squad of fictional nobodies (hello, Castolo and Minanda). Because the emulator allows for Save States, you can finally play the Master League without the anxiety of losing a crucial promotion match. Quick-save before a derby, take a risk, and if you lose 5-0, revert. It’s save-scumming, yes, but it keeps the narrative flowing.

Furthermore, AetherSX2’s cheat system allows you to inject modern Option Files. Want the 2024 Champions League kits? There are patches available that convert the WE2012 ISO into a modern database. It is the ultimate "time machine" football game.

Using touch screen is painful for WE2012. Use a Bluetooth controller (Xbox, PS4/5, or Gamesir).

Pro tip: In AetherSX2's controller settings, set "Analog Mode" to "Digital" for the D-pad, or "DualShock 2" for analog sticks. WE2012 responds poorly to deadzone errors—test your stick in the game's controller config menu.

The PS2 version of WE2012 is native 4:3. To fill your modern phone screen:
