If you grew up watching the animated classic, you probably remember Tarzan as the loincloth-wearing, tree-surfing hero with a perfect yodel. So when Warner Bros. released The Legend of Tarzan in 2016, audiences didn’t quite know what to expect.
Is it a reboot? A sequel? And, most importantly—is it worth your time to xem phim The Legend of Tarzan tonight?
I recently re-watched this action-adventure flick to see if it holds up. Here is my honest, spoiler-free take.
Here is the smartest thing the filmmakers did: This is not an origin story.
We don't spend 45 minutes watching Tarzan learn to swing on vines. Instead, the movie picks up years after he left the jungle. John Clayton III (Alexander Skarsgård) has traded his treehouse for the British House of Lords. He is living as civilized royalty with his wife, Jane (Margot Robbie).
But when he is lured back to the Congo under the guise of a diplomatic mission, he realizes it is a trap set by the villainous Captain Rom (Christoph Waltz). To save his home and free the people of the jungle, Tarzan has to strip off the suit and become the beast again.
Alexander Skarsgård underwent a rigorous training regimen to achieve a "sinewy but lean" look, rather than a bulky bodybuilder physique, to resemble a creature of the wild who moves with agility. He performed many of his own stunts.
