"The driver is unavailable" error: This usually means the driver downloaded was not the correct version for your OS architecture (32-bit vs. 64-bit). Check your System Type in your computer's "About" settings and redownload the matching driver.

Receipts printing blank or garbled text: This is rarely a driver issue and usually a configuration issue within your POS software. Ensure your POS software is set to "Generic / Text Only" or specifically to "HP A799" in the printer setup section of the software.

Legacy Operating Systems: If you are running this on Windows XP or Windows 7 Embedded, you may need to look for "HP Receipt Printer Drivers (Legacy)" on the HP support site. These are often found under the "Archived" sections.

We located a working driver package for the HP A799 (often used with the HP A799 PS (Parallel) or USB models):

After downloading:

Fix: Calibrate the media sensor.

That's a misclassification by Windows. The device descriptor may incorrectly label it as "thermal" because the printhead uses heat. Ignore it.
