-strange Girl-: Tentacle Mart -v0.1.0-
One cannot discuss Tentacle Mart without addressing the sound design. Composer Uboa Hertz (a pseudonym) created a soundtrack that alternates between lofi hip hop beats to study/despair to and industrial screeching. The "restock music" is a distorted elevator version of "Girl from Ipanema" played through a broken Game Boy speaker.
Crucially, the Strange Girl has no voice actor. All her dialogue is conveyed through text that types itself out, then erases itself backwards. To hear her voice, players have reported needing to wear headphones and turn the volume to max during the "3 AM save corruption" event—where she whispers the game's folder directory aloud. Creepy, but effective.
The search term "Tentacle Mart -v0.1.0- -Strange Girl-" is niche, but it represents a growing subgenre: Cosmic Retail Horror. We saw hints of this in The Store is Closed and Pacific Drive, but never in a convenience store setting.
The hyphenated structure of the name suggests a versioning system. If v0.1.0 is just the introduction of the Strange Girl, what happens in v0.2.0? Does she move to Aisle 6? Does she start stocking her own tentacles? Tentacle Mart -v0.1.0- -Strange Girl-
If you are looking for a polished, jump-scare-heavy horror game, look elsewhere. If you want an atmospheric, confusing, wet-limbed nightmare about working the graveyard shift with a ghost who just wants better shelf organization, Tentacle Mart -v0.1.0- -Strange Girl- is a must-play.
It is broken. It is bizarre. And in the final minutes of the v0.1.0 build, if you survive until 6:00 AM, the Strange Girl doesn't disappear.
She drops her umbrella.
She smiles.
And the tentacles recede back into the ceiling.
Then she clocks you out.
Stay tuned for our coverage of v0.2.0: "Tentacle Mart - The Manager's Log." Until then, keep your lantern charged and your back to the wall.

She has no official name in the build. The game files label her simply as STRANGE_GIRL_V0.1. She appears around 2:00 AM in-game time, always standing in Aisle 7 (Non-Dairy Creamers and Packaged Pastries).
Visually, she’s an intentional uncanny valley: early-2000s flip phone, wet hair plastered to her face despite the bone-dry store, eyes that track the player even when her back is turned. She never blinks. Her dialogue is minimal—three lines total in v0.1.0:
